Winter Camporee  20-Jan-07  This Camporee dealt the wonderful area know as the Walls of Jericho.  We hiked into the valley via the TN side trail (apx.3.6 miles) with an elevation drop of just over 1000 ft.  The hike in  took 1hr 45 min.  There is a lot of contour hiking, but some pretty rough down hill/ up hill parts as well.  We arrived at the trailhead around 8am and started the hike.  Arrived in camp just before 10 am.  Set up camp, ate lunch and went into the walls.  There was no water coming over the upper falls, but the scenery was wonderful none the less.  We saw a couple of wild flowers blooming.  They are confused. Got back to camp around 2:30 and started collecting wood and preparing for evening.  We were hoping that the rain would hold off until late Sunday.  Around midnight started hearing rain coming and going through out the night.  Started moving around 6am in some rain.  It would stop for a while and then start up again.  We got camp cleaned up and on our way around 8am.  The rain started for good by this time.  It rained the entire hike out.  This took us 2 hours and 5 min to complete.  The temperature was in the low to mid 40's but the wind was low.  Once we got to the top of the ridge, thought, the wind  was blowing about 20 mph.  The wind chill went down about 20 degrees at this time.  We were lucky we only had about a quarter mile to hike on the ridge to the cars.  We were VERY cold at this point.  Everyone did well and had a good time.  This will be one of the Camporees that everyone will remember...
